Serie A 22/23 – Matchday 12 Team of the Week

Alex Meret – Napoli

Although the Partenopei produced another excellent attacking performance, Meret ensured that the Napoli goal was not breached by the Sassuolo forwards, making numerous impressive saves in the process.

Antonio Candreva – Salernitana

Produced a superb performance against one of his former clubs, scoring the equaliser for the Granata with a delightful lob over Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, and he was involved in the build-up for the second Salernitana goal.

Stefan De Vrij – Inter

Opened the scoring against Sampdoria with a header and performed admirably at the back. Made eight clearances and won five out of seven aerial duels.

Koffi Djidji – Torino

Had a solid game in defence but evidently his greatest contribution in the shock victory against AC Milan was his header to open the scoring.

Mario Rui – Napoli

The Portuguese defender has become a reliable performer under coach Luciano Spalletti and he shows plenty of energy running down the left flank. Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli with a great fingertip save denied him a goal early in the match but he did supply Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with an assist.

Nicolo Barella – Inter

The Italian midfielder scored his third goal in as many Serie A appearances, controlling a long pass from Alessandro Bastoni and then smashing the ball past Emil Audero in the Sampdoria goal. It was also his fourth goal in his last five appearances competitive fixtures.

Hakan Calhanoglu – Inter

It was a complete performance from the Turkish midfielder against Sampdoria. He assisted for Stefan De Vrij, had a successful passing rate of 85%, and was ranked first for chances created with four. Defensively, one block, and nine recoveries, including three interceptions.

Mady Camara – Roma

Although there were some impressive performers for the Giallorossi up front, the Guinean midfielder provided much-needed solidarity in midfield. He was ranked first for successful tackles with five and for duels won with nine.

Ademola Lookman – Atalanta

Sealed the victory against Empoli with an individual effort that showed his persistence and technical quality. The Atalanta winger has taken his Serie A tally to five so far in 2022/23.

Victor Osimhen – Napoli

The Nigerian striker scored the first hat-trick of his Serie A career. His first two goals demonstrated his ability to be in the right place in the right time, and the third goal was from a defensive error, which allowed him to surge forward and chip the ball past Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – Napoli

What else can be said about this sensational winger from Georgia? The 21-year-old produced another sublime performance on the left-wing, creating the first two goals for Victor Osimhen and then controlled down a long pass from Mario Rui for the third Partenopei goal.
