Serie A 2023/24: Player of the Week – Matchday 25

Dany Mota helped Monza to an impressive 4-2 win over AC Milan and won the 2023/24 Serie A Player of the Week award for Matchday 25.

A stunning performance from Dany Mota helped Monza to a surprise 4-2 win over AC Milan and secured the Portuguese the 2023/24 Serie A Player of the Week for Matchday 25.

The 25-year-old played a crucial role for the Brianzoli at the U-Power Stadium as they took a two-goal lead, but strikes from Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic levelled the scores, before injury-time goals from Warren Bondo and Lorenzo Colombo.

Mota mauls Milan

With the first period in Lombardy edging towards a goalless stalemate, the attacker sprung into life one last time and, before the Rossoneri knew it, they were trailing by two goals and fighting to stay in the contest.

On the cusp of half-time, Mota collected a loose ball after Malick Thiaw had hacked down a teammate and the German then brought him to ground, as his moment of madness continued, resulting in a penalty which was converted by Matteo Pessina.

Will Mota ever realise his full potential in Serie A?

Immediately after winning Monza the spot kick, the former Juventus man received a pass on the edge of the box and curled a wonderful effort round Mike Maignan for 2-0, but it was just his second goal of the campaign for the Brianzoli.

Mota arrived in Italy in 2015, when he joined Virtus Entella as a youngster and showed such promise that the Bianconeri took him to Turin four years later. However, the attacker failed to make a single first-team appearance and left for Monza, and is approaching a stage in his career when he should be reaching his prime.
