AS Roma went top of Serie A with a comprehensive win over struggling top-flight newcomers Monza on Tuesday night. Helping to fire the Giallorossi to victory, big-name summer signing Paulo Dybala registered his first goals in a Roma shirt and that was enough to see him not only named in the Team of the Week, but as Serie A Player of the Week for Matchday 4.

The goal resulted in the Brianzoli becoming the 28th side against which the former Juventus and Palermo attacker has scored in Serie A, and it did not take long until Dybala had his second on the night and for his new club. Dybala got his brace sealed 14 minutes later.

The newly-promoted side remain without a point in their first ever top-flight campaign and the capital club brushed them aside 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico, with a Roger Ibanez strike adding to the Argentina international’s brace. Monza, at the bottom alongside fellow newcomers Cremonese, look to be in real trouble already in Serie A.

On 18 minutes the 28-year-old displayed great technique to collect a Tammy Abraham flick-on while bursting into the Monza half. From there, Dybala raced through and carried the bobbling ball towards goal, firing low across goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio for the opener.

On that occasion, Abraham indirectly assisted the South American, seeing an effort of his own palmed away by Di Gregorio, and Dybala sliding in to bundle the ball into the net, under pressure from a Monza defender. Abraham has now repaid Dybala’s assist for his goal against Juventus.

With that goal, the ex-Palermo striker became just the eighth player to reach 100 goals and 50 assists in Serie A, as Roma made their best start to a campaign since 2014/15.

However, Dybala will be a little disappointed not to have added a third, with Di Gregorio denying the Argentine a hat-trick early in the second period.
