Lazio occupy fourth place in the Serie A table after seven rounds, one point ahead of city rivals Roma, and their star striker Ciro Immobile has been selected as the Serie A Player of the Week for Matchday 7 after his emphatic performance against Cremonese. Naturally, he leads the line in the Serie A Team of the Week as well.

The Biancocelesti won comfortably against the newly-promoted side, defeating the Grigiorossi 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in Cremona, and the experienced forward found the back of the net twice, taking his tally for 2022/23 to five goals, one behind Marko Arnautovic of Bologna.

Immobile was involved in the build-up for the first goal before finishing off the move after seven minutes. Although one of his teammates was fouled, the advantage was played and the 32-year-old passed the ball to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian noticed that the Italian continued his run forward and he supplied a delightful through-ball for the Lazio captain to strike with his left foot.

Immobile crushes Cremonese

After Immobile’s shot hit the arm of Cremonese defender Luka Lochoshvili, Lazio earned a penalty and the Aquile captain doubled his team’s lead in the 21st minute, sending his kick into the bottom right corner. Lazio went 3-0 up just before the break thanks to a scrappy goal from Milinkovic-Savic and Immobile also was involved in the exchange of passes leading up to it.

The 32-year-old squandered a great chance to grab his hat-trick, shooting wide to his left with only Ionut Radu in the Cremonese goal to beat, and the Grigiorossi goalkeeper also rushed out to deny Immobile another chance to get his third.

Immobile creates as well as scores

Despite not getting the hat-trick, Immobile was still able to play the provider, passing to Pedro to his left and the Spaniard sealed the win with a low shot.

Immobile now has 187 goals in 268 competitive matches for Lazio. Meanwhile, the Aquile now has 14 points after seven rounds, level with AC Milan, but with a superior goal difference. The Biancocelesti will host Spezia after the international break.
