Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa played a crucial role in Napoli’s 3-1 win over Torino, to keep the Neapolitans at the top of the standings, and was our Player of the Week for Serie A Matchday 8.

The Partenopei were always in control at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday afternoon against the Granata, with the Cameroon international’s brace giving them a 2-0 lead within 12 minutes.

Luciano Spalletti’s side remains unbeaten since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, and for 12 games if including the final four games of the previous season, with an impressive 20 points from a possible 24.

Anguissa adds goals to his repertoire

Having not scored a league goal since appearing for La Liga outfit Villarreal on 19th July 2020, few will have expected the 26-year-old to be the match winner in Naples with his goalscoring exploits.

On six minutes, Anguissa made a perfectly timed run into the Torino box to meet a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia cross from the left wing, and direct a header narrowly past Toro goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

After becoming Napoli’s 10th different scorer in Serie A this term, the former Fulham midfielder doubled his contribution just six minutes later. Allowed to drive towards goal from the halfway line and slot the ball confidently passed the Serbian custodian.

Nearly three decades have passed since a Napoli player last netted in the opening 15 minutes of a Serie A fixture. Striker Daniel Fonseca achieving the feat on 16th January 1994 against Cremonese.
