Matchday 27 in Serie A saw yet more dropped points for AC Milan in their hunt to finish in the top four as they were beaten away at Udinese. Stefano Pioli’s side have regressed in recent weeks back to their early 2023 form.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic did return in a 3-1 defeat to captain the side and he scored from the spot, but they never really looked like they were going to win the game at the Dacia Arena. On the Friday night, Sassuolo narrowly beat Spezia 1-0 and then a late Rasmus Hojlund goal secured a crucial 2-1 win for Atalanta against Empoli.

Saturday afternoon started with Monza 1-1 Cremonese and then an entertaining 2-2 draw between Salernitana and Bologna. That was followed by Milan’s defeat at Udinese.

The action continued on Sunday and got underway with Sampdoria claiming a rare home win, beating fellow strugglers Hellas Verona 3-1 at Marassi. Napoli pulled further clear at the top with a 4-0 win at Torino, and Fiorentina beat Lecce 1-0.

The biggest games of the weekend were both Sunday evening derbies, and Lazio edged AS Roma 1-0 in the Derby della Capitale before Inter lost 1-0 to Juventus in the Derby d’Italia.
