Serie A table after Matchday 38: Final 2022/23 standings

A relegation playoff will decide the third and final team to fall into Serie B as nothing could separate Spezia and Hellas Verona over 38 Matchdays.

The 2022/23 Serie A season is coming to a close with Matchday 38, and those final loose ends are finally being tied. Although two of the three teams to drop into Serie B have long been known and Napoli were crowned champions even earlier, there were some things left to resolve on the final weekend of the season.

Maurizio Sarri secured a second-place finish for Lazio as they won 2-0 away at his former club Empoli, leaving Inter to settle for third after they had beaten Torino 1-0 earlier.

Fiorentina claimed a 3-1 win at Sassuolo on Friday in their last game before their Europa Conference League final meeting with West Ham, and Cremonese beat Salernitana 2-0 in a game that meant next-to-nothing for either.

On the final Sunday of the season, champions Napoli continued their celebrations with a 2-0 win over Sampdoria before the important action got underway. AS Roma beat Spezia late on while AC Milan saw off Hellas Verona, meaning the Gialloblu and Aquilotti will have to face off in a one-off relegation playoff to survive the drop.

Elsewhere, Juventus won 1-0 at Udinese and Bologna beat Lecce 3-2.
