Adrien Rabiot was the hero for Juventus, scoring the only goal of their 1-0 win over AS Roma at the Allianz Stadium. The Frenchman was also named our 2023/24 Serie A Player of the Week for Matchday 18.
With Inter dropping points in a 1-1 draw with Genoa the previous day, the Bianconeri pulled just two points behind their scudetto rivals as the season approaches the halfway stage.
Perfect time for Adrien Rabiot to rediscover goalscoring touch
Although one of Juventus’ most influential players this term, the 28-year-old had not found the net since the start of December when the Old Lady secured a 2-1 win away to Monza.
With the Bianconeri struggling to break down a resolute Giallorossi side, though, the Frenchman chose the perfect time to score his third goal of the campaign.
The second half was just two minutes old when Rabiot collected the ball, somewhat fortuitously, as he broke into the Roma box, and with Rui Patricio rushing out to narrow the angle, squeezed a low shot between the goalkeeper and his post for the only goal of the game.
Prolific Adrien Rabiot outscoring Serie A midfielders
Until last season, when the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder netted 11 times in all competitions, goals had been lacking from someone who has performed box-to-box duties for the Turin giants since arriving in the summer of 2019.
However, that total included eight in Serie A alone, and with three more this term, Rabiot is now the highest-scoring midfielder in the top flight since the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign.
As one of the more experienced and long-serving players in the current Juventus squad, continuing this run of form is just what coach Massimiliano Allegri will need to challenge for the title.
