Serie A Femminile belatedly returned for the 2023/24 season on the weekend of September 16/17, and Juventus Women‘s Julia Grosso put in an impressive performance to help the Bianconere claim three hard-earned points on the road at Pomigliano.
Juventus start the new season hungrier than ever to win the title, having been dethroned by AS Roma last season after having won five consecutive Serie A Femminile titles. On the road to a side expected to finish in the bottom half was, on paper, a kind start to the season. But Pomigliano can be tricky opponents to face, particularly in Campania, and so it proved for Joe Montemurro‘s side. In the end, though, they returned to Turin with all three points and a 3-2 win.
Julia Grosso‘s performance in midfield for the Bianconere saw her named as the Total Italian Football Serie A Femminile Player of the Week for Matchday 1. She was, of course, also named in our Team of the Week.

Julia Grosso picks up where she left off last season
Now starting her third season in Italy, Julia Grosso has grown into her role at Juventus. The 2022/23 campaign saw her take things up a level from the previous term, and her performance against Pomigliano suggests she’s ready to improve even further in 2023/24.

Her influence in the Bianconere midfield was undeniable last season, and she was integral in helping the Bianconere start the current campaign with a win. All-action in midfield and looking to start attacks while moving through the Pantere’s defensive lines, she got her reward around the half-hour mark when she turned in Juventus‘ second.
Having just drawn level through Amanda Nilden less than a minute earlier, a loose ball fell in the box and Grosso – as she was a number of times last term – was ready and waiting to pounce and finish. Although the Granata got back on level terms, Cristiana Girelli came off the bench to secure the points for Juventus in the second half on the end of a fine Sofia Cantore cross.
