With the Women’s Serie A returning from the winter break for Matchday 12, no players shone brighter than Sassuolo forward Chiara Beccari. The Juventus loanee scored the only goal of the game as the Neroverdi beat Inter 1-0 in Milan to continue their push towards the top half of the table ahead of the league’s split at the end of the regular season, earning her our Player of the Week award.
Naturally, Beccari‘s performance also saw her book a place in our Women’s Serie A Team of the Week.
After a slow start to the 2023/24 season, both Sassuolo as a team and Beccari as an individual within it had been starting to find their feet somewhat before the Christmas break, and they picked up their biggest result of the campaign yet away to the Nerazzurre.
Beccari’s development continuing at Sassuolo
Beccari‘s 2023 was a breakthrough year for her, being named the Italian Golden Girl at the end of it, and she looks set to make 2024 a career-defining one. On loan at Como Women last season, the teenager impressed and played a huge role in their survival.
Before even setting off for the Women’s World Cup just a couple of months after debuting for the Italy Women’s National Team, her confirmed summer move to Sassuolo looked to be a match made in heaven. The Neroverdi have done well in recent seasons when it comes to giving young emerging players a platform on which they can announce themselves in the professional game, and Beccari felt like the perfect profile of signing for them.
But the season didn’t start too well for Beccari, and she looked from early on as though she was going to take some time to settle in Emilia-Romagna, while still showing glimpses of the player that she could be. Her slow start to the season wasn’t helped by a penalty miss in the Coppa Italia away at Parma.
She soon found her feet though, and a goal capped an impressive overall performance away at AC Milan a few weeks later in a game that Sassuolo would have felt as though they should have taken more from.
Now, though, Beccari looks settled at Sassuolo and appears to understand where she fits in Gianpiero Piovani‘s side. Now, the Neroverdi are starting to see the 2023 Italian Golden Girl for what she is.
