Cristiana Girelli has hit the ground running for Juventus Women at the beginning of this 2023/24 Serie A Femminile season, and her performance in the Bianconere’s Matchday 2 win over Sampdoria has seen her earn our Player of the Week prize. Of course, Girelli also features as one of the attacking three in our Team of the Week.

Juventus will be hungrier than ever to win the Serie A Femminile title this season after having been dethroned by AS Roma in 2022/23, ending their run of five consecutive titles, and Girelli herself has already said that ending the season as Italian champions is exactly what the Bianconere are aiming to do.

Evergreen Girelli

Thanks in no small part to Girelli, Juventus have started the season with two wins from their opening two games. Their opening-day trip to face Pomigliano in Campania proved more trying than many might have anticipated, but it was Girelli who sealed three important points there with a header after having come off the bench just moments earlier to continue her incredible opening-day record in Serie A Femminile.

Now 33, Girelli is showing no signs of slowing down when she finds herself in front of goal, and she is continuing to prove to both Juventus boss Joe Montemurro and new Italy Women’s National Team coach Andrea Soncin that she is more than able to make a difference in decisive moments.

Girelli assisted Maelle Garbino‘s opener against Samp by showing excellent hold-up play before laying off for her French teammate, and she later got on the scoresheet herself to take her tally for the season to two goals in as many games. Girelli got the Bianconere’s third goal of the evening after Lineth Beerensteyn had restored their lead following Taty‘s conversion of a penalty to draw Samp level. Beerensteyn then added her second and Juventus‘ third.
