Matchday 6 of the 2023/24 Serie A Femminile season was, by a distance, the biggest of the season so far for reasons of on-field excellence and off-field chaos. After the weekend’s action, we have named our Serie A Femminile Team of the Week.

The weekend’s biggest game undeniably came in Biella, with champions AS Roma Women facing Juventus in the Bianconere’s new home. With Manuela Giugliano, Giada Greggi, Emilie Haavi and Evelyne Viens shining particularly bright, the Giallorosse stormed into a 3-0 lead before Julia Grosso pulled a goal back for the hosts. Roma held on for a vital 3-1 win. Giugliano‘s performance saw her take our Player of the Week prize as well.

Como Women continued their own excellent start to the season over in Seregno as goals from Miriam Picchi and Oona Sevenius helped them to a 2-1 win over Inter, allowing them to overtake their fellow Lombards into fourth place.

As good as those games were for the image of Italian women’s football, though, the weekend was ultimately a regrettable one for ongoings in Campania. Following a controversial penalty decision that saw Pomigliano lose 1-0 at home to Sampdoria, converted by former Pantere player Taty, the hosts issued a furious statement and announced that they were withdrawing from Serie A Femminile “with immediate effect”.

Elsewhere, Sassuolo won 1-0 at Napoli for their first win of the season through teenager Manuela Sciabica and Fiorentina grabbed a late win against AC Milan.
