Serie A Femminile: AS Roma are 2022/23’s winter champions

Top of the table as the first full round of Serie A Femminile fixtures came to an end, AS Roma Women are the winter champions for 2022/23, proving yet again that they are to be taken seriously in the title race.

AS Roma Women are Serie A Femminile’s winter champions for the 2022/23 season, sitting top of the table after the first round of fixtures. The Giallorosse’s only loss in their opening 10 games came against reigning champions Juventus.

Juventus, incidentally, have won each of the last five Serie A Femminile titles. This season, though, Roma look prepared to go the distance with the Bianconere in the title race and that they top the table with everybody now having played one another once suggests they are to be taken seriously.

AS Roma Women are on the rise

The Giallorosse have impressed so far this season and look a much stronger side than they have in previous campaigns, despite winning the Coppa Italia in 2020/21 and chaining together an incredible unbeaten run in 2021/22, only to fall just short to Juventus due to their slow start to the season.

Roma have kicked on again under Alessandro Spugna though this season and are enjoying a strong start to their first-ever Women’s Champions League campaign as well – winning each of their two group games so far.

They recently beat Juventus on penalties in the Supercoppa Femminile final at Parma’s Stadio Ennio Tardini, giving them real hope of bettering Joe Montemurro’s Bianconere over the course of the Serie A Femminile season. The trophy was just the second in their history after the aforementioned Coppa Italia in 2021.

Roma currently top the Serie A Femminile table with 24 points from their nine games so far. Their only loss came to Juventus and they are yet to draw this season. They have won each of their two Champions League games.

Impressively, Roma have conceded just three goals domestically, giving them the best defensive record in Serie A Femminile. Fiorentina have the next-best record with eight goals conceded.
