Women’s Football Podcast: Ominous start from Juventus, AC Milan still their own worst nightmare

Matchday 1 of Serie A Femminile threw out some early-season surprises. Juventus started as they mean to go on, but AC Milan fans were left with their head in their hands again.

Serie A Femminile is back! Matchday 1 of the 2022/23 season was played out over the weekend and there were some early shock results as both Sassuolo and AC Milan fell to defeats. To talk through it all, Euan Burns and Conor Clancy are here.

The Neroverde lost a lead against Sampdoria, while the Rossonere looked like any pre-season optimism surrounding them was misguided as they were hammered by Fiorentina

At the top, Juventus smashed newcomers Como 6-0 thanks to a first-half Cristiana Girelli hat-trick, and AS Roma started as they’d have hoped with a comfortable 2-0 win at Pomigliano.

Parma’s first-ever Serie A Femminile game saw them lose 4-1 to Inter.

We’re now straight into an international break in women’s football, with Italy hoping to secure qualification for the Women’s World Cup. The Azzurre will book their place in Australia and New Zealand with wins against Romania and Moldovia this week.

They play on September 2 and September 6.
