Serie A Matchday 8: What were the results of Saturday & Sunday’s games?

There was plenty of action to read about from Saturday and Sunday's Matchday 8 Serie A fixtures.


Serie A Matchday 8 produced yet another thrilling set of results to keep the drama coming thick and fast. There were wins at the top for Napoli, Atalanta and AC Milan whilst AS Roma go the better of Inter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Saturday’s Serie A matches kicked off with Napoli getting yet another victory as they beat Torino 3-1. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa scored twice in the first 12 minutes to continue his superb form and then Kvicha Kvaratskhelia scored yet another wonderful goal to get the third.

Next up was Roma’s trip to Inter where they fell behind early on to Federico Dimarco’s low shot. Paulo Dybala volleyed Roma level and then Chris Smalling headed in the winner to make it 2-1 and pile more misery onto Simone Inzaghi.

The final game on Saturday was extremely dramatic as Milan beat Empoli 3-1 at the Stadio Carlo Castellani. The Rossoneri only took the lead in the 79th minute but then in stoppage time there was an equaliser from Nedim Bajrami and goals from Fode Ballo-Toure and Rafael Leao.

Sunday’s matches saw a big 4-0 win for Lazio against Spezia as well as a victory for Atalanta against Fiorentina. Lecce drew with Cremonese whilst Sassuolo thrashed Salernitana 5-0 at the Mapei where Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi became the first ever female Serie A referee.

Sampdoria lost 3-0 at hime to Monza and that led to the sacking of Marco Giampaolo as head coach. Juventus returned after the international break in good shape as they beat Bologna 3-0 at the Allianz Stadium.

Monday night saw Hellas Verona become Udinese’s latest victims as they were beaten 2-1.
