Five of Serie A‘s seven representatives that still remain in the three European competitions have discovered which teams they will be playing in the next round of the Champions League and the Europa League.
Inter, Napoli and Lazio all finished second in their respective Champions League groups this season which meant they were second seeds for the Round of 16 draw. Teams such as Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were all potential opponents for the Serie A sides.
AC Milan dropped into the Europa League knockout round play-off draw, where AS Roma also found themselves as they finished second in their Europa League group. In the same competition, Atalanta won their group which means they go straight into the Round of 16 and do not yet have a new opponent. The same can be said for Fiorentina, but in the Europa Conference League.
Who will Inter, Napoli and Lazio face in the Champions League Round of 16?
There are some very intriguing ties for the Italian sides left in the Champions League.
Inter are going to be facing Atletico Madrid with the first leg being played at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Diego Simeone will be coming up against the team that he played 85 times for.
Napoli will also be facing Spanish opposition as they are welcoming Barcelona to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Walter Mazzarri will find himself against one of Europe’s current champions as he continues to shape his Napoli team.
Lazio fans may be feeling less confident as they will be facing Bayern Munich, again. Lazio’s last involvement in the Round of 16 was against Bayern and they lost the tie 6-2 on aggregate. Maurizio Sarri will be keen to avoid a similar scoreline.

Who will AC Milan and AS Roma face in the Europa League knockout round play-off?
AC Milan only managed to finish third in their Champions League group which means that they drop into the knockout round play-off of the Europa League, where they knew they’d be facing a second-placed Europa League side.
They have been drawn to face French side Stade Rennes, who are currently only 13th in Ligue 1. Their group contained Villarreal, Maccabi Haifa and Panathinaikos.
AS Roma finished second in their Europa League group which means they must face one of the teams that finished third in a Champions League group. Perhaps predictably, they have been drawn to face Feyenoord.
The two sides faced off in the Europa Conference League final in 2021/22 which Roma won, and then Roma knocked the Dutch side out of the Europa League at the quarter-final stage in the 2022/23 season. Having been in Lazio’s Champions League group, Feyenoord have had their fair share of trips to Rome recently.
