The first Serie A matchday of 2024 certainly came with plenty of drama, particularly with Inter‘s late win over Verona and Napoli’s loss away at Torino.

Matchday 19 began on Friday night with Bologna continuing to stutter as they could only draw 1-1 at home to Genoa, thanks to a 95th-minute equaliser.

Saturday’s action started with Inter taking an expected early lead against Verona, but the Gialloblu equalised in the closing stages. Davide Frattesi scored the winner in stoppage time, but there was still time for Darko Lazovic to be sent off and Thomas Henry to miss a penalty.

Monza dramatically won 3-2 away at Frosinone, whilst Lecce and Cagliari played out a 1-1 draw in Salento. Later that night, Sassuolo picked up a great three points as they beat Fiorentina 1-0.

There was a great 3-0 win at Empoli for AC Milan on Sunday, which was followed by Napoli losing 3-0 away at Torino, a result that put further pressure on Walter Mazzarri despite being new to the job. At the same time as that game, Lazio won 2-1 away at Udinese.

Similarly to Inter, Juventus needed to score late on to beat Salernitana 2-1 on Sunday night. Dusan Vlahovic netted the winner in the 91st minute after the Granata had taken the lead.

Finally, AS Roma were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Atalanta, a result that keeps the top four race very tight.
