The last set of Serie A results before the 2023/24 season’s second international break came as Matchday 8 was played out over the weekend, and it was a weekend on which AC Milan were able to pull clear of cross-city rivals Inter at the top of the Serie A table.

The Rossoneri won 1-0 away at Genoa on Saturday night, and Olivier Giroud ended the game as their goalkeeper after Mike Maignan was shown a red card in a chaotic ending at Marassi. This game followed Inter earlier blowing a lead to draw with Bologna at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Juventus continued to dominate the Derby della Mole with a 2-0 win over Torino. On Friday Lecce and Sassuolo drew 1-1 in Salento, while Empoli and Udinese went goalless.

On Sunday, Monza beat Salernitana 3-0, Lazio beat Atalanta 3-2 in a big win in Rome, Frosinone beat Hellas Verona 2-1, and Romelu Lukaku continued his fine AS Roma form with two goals in a 4-1 win at Cagliari.

To end the weekend there was also a big win for Fiorentina as they beat champions Napoli 3-1 to pile more pressure on Rudi Garcia.
