Serie A made its return after the international break with Matchday 9‘s fixtures getting underway on Saturday with three games spread across the day, starting with reigning champions Napoli.

They impressed away at Hellas Verona and were able to record a 3-1 victory, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia getting back to his best and netting twice for Rudi Garcia‘s team.

That was followed by a professional victory against Torino in Piedmont for Inter, where Marcus Thuram was able to find the net once again and show why he has been such a good signing. Saturday ended with a comfortable 2-0 win away at Sassuolo for Lazio.

On Sunday, it was AS Roma and Monza in the early slot and after being reduced to 10 players before the break, Monza held out until Stephan El Shaarawy‘s winner in stoppage at the Stadio Olimpico.

The afternoon games saw a 2-2 draw between Salernitana and Cagliari, and a 2-1 win for Bologna over Frosinone. Atalanta then beat Genoa 2-0 at home with goals from Ademola Lookman and Ederson.

Sunday was rounded off with Juventus‘ crucial victory away at AC Milan, winning 1-0 after Malick Thiaw was sent off in the first half.

Monday night’s matches saw a 1-1 draw between Udinese and Lecce, followed by Empoli‘s surprising 2-0 win over Fiorentina.
