Lethal Lautaro Martinez hits a century of Serie A goals as Inter look unstoppable

Inter celebrated a third successive 4-0 win in Serie A as striker Lautaro Martinez hit his 100th league goal for the club, as they edge ever closer to the scudetto.

Inter maintained their lead at the top of the Serie A table with a routine 4-0 victory over Lecce at the Stadio Via del Mare in Matchday 26.

The Nerazzurri had a Lautaro Martinez brace to thank for the win, with the striker netting either side of Davide Frattesi’s goal.

Victory was wrapped up late on as Stefan De Vrij headed in his first goal of the season to move Inter to 66 points from 25 games.

Inter look unstoppable

If there were any doubts that Inter are now the overwhelming favourites to win the Serie A title this season, they were blown away at the Stadio Vio del Mare as the Nerazzurri turned on the style in the second half.

Simone Inzaghi’s side have netted four goals in three consecutive matches and their blistering form in front of goal is firing them to the title, even in the absence of Marcus Thuram up front. Unbeaten in 20 league games now, the Nerazzurri are nine points clear of Juventus at the top of the table with a game in hand and are showing no signs of slowing down.

Aiming for a first scudetto since 2021, Inter have taken a front-foot approach to their play and it has rewarded them with an incredible 63 goals in just 25 matches.

Strength in depth

Whilst Inzaghi has been reluctant to change a winning team all too often this season, he rotated for the visit to the Giallorossi and will be glad to see his back up options impress against Lecce.

Goalkeeper Yann Sommer was ruled out with flu but Emil Audero deputised without fault, whilst a reworked midfield of Frattesi, Kristjan Asllani and Henrikh Mkhitaryan was able to control proceedings from the centre.

Similarly, under-fire forward Alexis Sanchez also provided a positive contribution in place of Thuram by laying on an assist for Frattesi. Whilst the Chilean still hasn’t scored in Serie A this term, his impact will have nonetheless pleased Inzaghi and the coach will be delighted at the depth in his squad.

Lethal Lautaro’s memorable season

At the forefront of Inter‘s pursuit of the title is striker Lautaro Martinez, and the Argentina international was in devastating form once again with two goals against Lecce.

It took his tally for the season up to 22 and in the process he broke the 100 goal mark in Serie A across his career, with his numbers showcasing the reliability in front of goal since arriving from Racing Club in 2018.

With Thuram out injured, the onus was on Martinez to keep Inter ticking over in attack and he did that superbly, proving himself as one of Europe’s most deadly strikers.
