Juventus beat Torino 1-0 in the Derby della Mole on Saturday evening thanks to a goal from Dusan Vlahovic at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
It was a poor game of Serie A football lacking in any real quality but the Serbian forward got the breakthrough in the second half.
The first real flashpoint for Juventus came after half an hour when Vlahovic was able to get a strike away from close range after the ball had been given away in defence. Vanja Milinkovic-Savic saved superbly and then quickly had to fend off shots from Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot.
There was soon another shot from Juan Cuadrado as the Bianconeri began to build up a head of steam and Torino struggled to keep a hold of the ball.
The rest of the half and much of the second passed without incident until Juventus finally put a good move together. Filip Kostic was released down the left and played the ball into the box where Moises Kean had plenty of space. He could only fumble his shot wide though when it seemed easier to score.
The game began to get a lot more stretched later in the second half as the two sides began to tire and that made it more of an entertaining spectacle. Aleksei Miranchuk skied a great chance from inside the box with 20 minutes to play.
The breakthrough finally came with just over 15 minutes left. Danilo headed Cuadrado’s corner towards the far post where Vlahovic acted fastest to prod the ball into the back of the net.
Torino did what they could but Juventus did not look like relinquishing their lead once it had been acquired.
Vlahovic looks frustrated at Juventus
Dusan Vlahovic is undoubtedly the danger man in this Juventus side at the moment but even he has been struggling to make any meaningful impact in recent weeks.
The goal here against Torino will help but as a team, they cannot rely on the Serbian to sniff an opportunity out every game when there is so little creativity and energy around him.
He is starting to cut the figure of a player that knows he is the only real hope of a goal when the performance is poor and that is not a sustainable way to be playing.
