Tottenham midfielder becomes the favoured Pogba replacement for Juventus, French quartet also targeted

Juventus are trying to find a replacement for Paul Pogba and they could turn to Premier League side Tottenham. Alternatively, there are a number of French targets on the list.

The ongoing situation with Juventus and Paul Pogba has brought forward conversations about who should replace him, but Juventus were thinking about this before his positive doping test.

During the 2023 summer transfer window, questions arose about the Frenchman’s future in Turin. After his B sample was confirmed as also being positive, the chances of Pogba being back in the Juventus team soon are looking very slim.

The club and Pogba have already discussed their options, and it seems from early talks that the cancellation of the midfielder’s contract could be on the cards – which would free up around €30 million for the club, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Juventus targeting Tottenham midfielder

Cristiano Giuntoli seems to have a preference for Pogba’s replacement: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Since Ange Postecoglou arrived in north London, the Dane has struggled for minutes and with Euro 2024 around the corner, the midfielder is open to an exit.

Whilst Tottenham would be against a loan deal, they would consider selling the 28-year-old for a fee of €30m. Postecoglou currently prefers a partnership of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma, however, both will leave in January to compete in the African Cup of Nations, leaving the midfield options short.

If the club were to sell, they would need a replacement before or shortly after selling Hojbjerg. The midfielder is believed to be on a contract worth nearly €115k per week, which shouldn’t be a huge issue for Juventus.

The club is not only targeting Hojbjerg but is scouting several other options, mainly with French backgrounds.

The Bianconeri have had a long-standing interest in Khephren Thuram, who has a price of €40m. In addition to this, they also have an interest in Manu Kone (Borussia Monchengladbach), Youssouf Fofana (AS Monaco), and Habib Diarra (RC Strasbourg).

All four are 24 years old or younger, which bodes well for a longer-term project than Hojbjerg would at 28 years old. However, this comes with the risk of inexperience and paying for potential, which the club is apprehensive about doing.
