Three takeaways from Udinese 0-3 Juventus: Chiesa and Vlahovic off the mark, Cambiaso turns heads

Juventus got off to a great start in Serie A as they comfortably beat Udinese with impressive displays from Federico Chiesa, Dusan Vlahovic and Andrea Cambiaso among others.

Juventus are looking to have a significantly less dramatic Serie A campaign in 2023/24 and they put in the perfect performance to achieve that goal against Udinese as they won 3-0 at the Dacia Arena.

The game was won in the first half as the Bianconeri netted all of their goals before the break, courtesy of Federico Chiesa, Dusan Vlahovic and Adrien Rabiot who all impressed throughout.

Another standout star in Udine was the young Andrea Cambiaso, who showed that he can be a very important player for Massimiliano Allegri this season.

Federico Chiesa is on a mission

A serious point of anguish last season for Juventus was the absence of Federico Chiesa. Everyone who has seen him play knows just how good he can be when things are going his way, but the injury layoff meant even when he did return towards the end of 2022/23, he was not at his best.

Less than two minutes in against Udinese, he looked like his old self. His goal set the tone for the game and he was involved in everything good that Juventus did. Allegri actually said of the winger in pre-season: “Chiesa is more aware and calm than last season. He had a difficult year and now he has different legs.”

The Italian will feel like a completely new signing who makes Juventus a lot more fun to watch if he can stay fit this season. Serie A and the Bianconeri will be better for it.

Vlahovic and Chiesa can lead for Juventus

We’ve discussed Chiesa specifically already, but the player that he is clearly trying to build a partnership with is Dusan Vlahovic. The Serbian will have better games this season, but there is a lot to work with.

Vlahovic has not had the same long injury layoff that Chiesa had, but he has had plenty of issues to deal with over the last 12-18 months. He will be very happy from a mental perspective to have gotten off the mark thanks to a penalty in the first game of the season, and it is Chiesa that he will be working closest with throughout the season.

The goal clearly meant a lot to him, following a summer of constant speculation about his future. It will have been a cathartic evening in Udine for Vlahovic and there should be more to come.

Andrea Cambiaso impresses on his debut

There was a debut for Italian youngster Andrea Cambiaso who signed for Juventus a year ago but spent last season on loan at Bologna. He played on the left of the midfield five for Massimiliano Allegri and he was very impressive.

He was tidy in possession and showed a lot of tactical versatility. He could often be seen picking up the ball in central midfield and linking up with teammates, whilst he was also able to run the channels effectively. He played a superb cross for Rabiot to head in the third goal.

It seems that he may have stolen Filip Kostic‘s spot in the Juventus team and based on his performance, he will be holding onto it.
