Who is AS Roma’s record goalscorer?

Former AS Roma captain and legend Francesco Totti remains the club's highest ever goalscorer and the scudetto-winning forward is amongst Serie A's greatest ever attackers.

In the illustrious history of AS Roma, one man stands head and shoulders above all others and there is simply nobody who comes close to Giallorossi icon Francesco Totti.

The capital club has enjoyed it’s fair share of prolific goalscorers over it’s 96-year existence, with the great Fabio Capello-led team at the turn of the century boasting the firepower of Gabriel Batistuta, Vincenzo Montella, and Marco Delvecchio.

Prior to that, the Giallorossi enjoyed the attacking talent of Roberto Pruzzo, Amadeo Amadei, and Rodolfo Volk, whilst Edin Dzeko was hugely prolific from 2015 until 2021.

King of Rome – Totti remains unmatched

Despite their wealth of great strikers, it is hometown hero Totti who is clear by some considerable distance in Roma’s list of all-time top goalscorers, with a truly incredible 307 strikes across a 24-year career spent entirely at the club.

The former Italy international made his debut as a precocious 16-year-old in 1993 before registering his first goal for the Lupi the following year, and soon establishing himself as the greatest player that Roma has ever produced.

A Serie A title in 2001 followed, with Totti netting 16 times in all competitions, but it was in the ‘False 9’ role under coach Luciano Spalletti that the captain began to truly rack up the goals and win the European Golden Boot thanks to 26 league strikes in 2007.

Totti is Roma’s top scorer by a considerable distance and only ex-Lazio and Juventus forward Silvio Piola can better the Giallorossi legend’s 250 Serie A goals, at 274 in total.

Pruzzo and Dzeko trail behind

Prior to the emergence of Totti, Roma fans looked to poaching ace Pruzzo as their source for goals, with the 1978 signing from Genoa bagging 138 goals and firing the Lupi to the title in 1983, whilst winning the capocannoniere crown three times.

Meanwhile, Dzeko initially struggled after joining on loan from Manchester City, but after plundering 29 goals in his second season the Bosnia and Herzegovina international went on to reach 119 goals for the club before signing for Inter.

Amadei, Serie A‘s youngest-ever goalscorer, struck 111 times from 1939 to 1948, as well as hitting a single goal in 1937, whilst the club’s first-ever scorer, Volk, went on to score 106 times in all competitions.
