Paris Saint Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has landed in Rome ahead of his move to AS Roma.
The Dutch midfielder was greeted by fans as he landed at Rome’s Ciampino Airport on Thursday afternoon. He arrived on a private flight from Rotterdam after weeks of negotiations with the Giallorossi and PSG.
The former Liverpool man is expected to undergo his medical examinations on Friday morning before he then signs his contract and officially becomes a part of Jose Mourinho’s squad.
The deal is a loan for the first season and then there is an option for Roma to buy him next summer. A fee of β¬2 million is being paid for the loan and then he can be brought permanently for an additional β¬8 million should the move be a success.
PSG will be paying a portion of the former Feyenoord player’s wages whilst he is at Roma.
Another big signing for Roma
Wijnaldum is yet another big signing for Roma in a summer where they have already added Nemanja Matic and Paulo Dybala to the squad without losing any major stars besides Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Wijnaldum will raise the level of dynamism in the Giallorossi midfield. It is expected that Jordan Veretout’s proposed move to Marseille will speed up now that Wijnaldum seems secure.
