The UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage came to an end on Thursday night and there was differing fortunes for the two Serie A Femminile representatives.
In their first-ever season in the UWCL, AS Roma made it through to the quarter-finals with a game to spare. They hammered SKN St. Poelten 5-0 on Matchday when all they needed was a draw. Their 3-0 win over Slavia Prague on the final day would have been enough to clinch top spot had Wolfsburg not beaten St. Poelten 8-2.
As for Juventus, their fine showing was not enough to see them through, owing to the quality of their opponents. Their nine points in the group was not enough and it was Arsenal and Lyon who progressed. Juve drew 0-0 with Lyon on Matchday 6, and one late goal would have seen them through.
