Matchday 16 of the 2023/24 Women’s Serie A season became an opportunity for the top five sides in the league to show why they are where they are, with the five of them beating the teams in the bottom half.

The most emphatic win came for Juventus at home to Como Women, as they won 5-0. Cristiana Girelli was particularly impressive as she scored twice, whilst Lisa Boattin and Sofia Cantore were also among the best performers.

They couldn’t make up ground on AS Roma, though, as they beat Napoli 1-0 away from home with Elena Linari having to defend admirably. Doris Bacic still put in another great display in goal for Napoli though, despite not keeping a clean sheet.

Sassuolo‘s great form continued with a 1-0 win at home to AC Milan which confirmed their status in the top half before the split in two matchdays time. Among others, Sara Mella impressed at right back, as did Cecilia Prugna in the Neroverdi midfield.

Inter are also in great form and they won 6-2 away at Pomigliano, with Lina Magull, Annamaria Serturini and Andrine Tomter playing their way into the Team of the Week. Finally, Alexandra Johannsdottir scored for Fiorentina as they beat Sampdoria 2-1 to keep the pressure on Juventus.
